My jacket doesn't bead up when wet so could do with a DWR treatment. Which is the best option, a spray or a wash in treatment?
I've been using the Nikwax wash in stuff to reproof all my shooting coats over the past few weeks. I've been impressed, lovely bead on them now.

I've tried a few, they are all of a muchness. Nikwax is as good as any and cheaper than most - especially if you find a good deal on one of the bulk containers (the whole family have various outdoors muddy AF hobbies so we go through a lot).
I've also tried different methods of applying (soaking in, not rinsing, hand wash etc). Best results seem to be from the washing machine - following the instructions to the letter (funny that!) about pre-rinsing your machine).

I was also a bit dubious about the nikwax washing machine method but it does work really well.
Used to be able to get 1 use sample sachets for doing an online survey thing but they stopped it😕

Nikwax / Grangers spray on or wash in all poor these days IME - eco warriors have removed fluro content meaning the effectiveness is nowhere near as good and you'll be washing / retreating far more frequently which makes a nonsense of the eco ting anyway (more energy expended) but plays into the hands of these brands as you'll be simply buying more!
Spray on the best - if you don't want to use Fabsil Gold in an atomiser try this - Diver Daves Repel
Much more similar to the older, higher fluro content sprays. Wash jacket in low soap tech wash / spray application all over whilst jacket is warm and damp then either line dry or tumble dry . . .

Nixwax TX Direct wash in. I've got Goretex kit 20yrs old and still going strong, I've been using this to reproof for at least 20yrs if not since the 90's. Wash with a non bio detergent first at 30c then another cycle with the TX Direct. Let the garment dry naturally and then give it a 10min blast in the tumble dryer - this makes all the difference to the water repellency.
