Mentioned on here a while back I'm up for a new pair of rods.
Fish only at Close - Medium range nothing over 75 Yds EVER.
Had my mind made up on a pair of Century Fat Boy Slims in 12 ft 2 3\4 test.
Really balanced well smashing thinks i.
Was just going to have ALPS real seats installed by the factory as an extra.
The only thing that irked me slightly was that they were not a full carbon weave.
Then today i hear about Harisons Aviator Flex 12 Ft in 3lb 2oz Test.
Apparently also a through action "Players rod"
(Except it has a full carbon weave,)
To me a 3lb test curve rod wants me to run screaming to the hills given the distances im casting with 1 3/4 - 2 oz leads, And im damn lucky if i hook anything big enough to the butt section
Im still leaning to the FBS.
Just wondered Is the Aviator Flex a players rod or more of a stick...

They are beautiful to play fish on. I wouldn't ever let my set go. Most definitely not a broomstick

Cheers and how do you find them for shorter casting ..?
not full on lumps just gentle little chucks...
overpowered..
Oh and is the join a spiggot type or butt joint type..?

Was in the same boat and went Aviator flex. Only used them twice lovely to cast with i cant cast over 100 yards no matter what rods i use as my technique is crap. Can't comment on displaying action as haven't hooked anything yet

I have used a set for a couple of years. Definately a players rod. I dont really fish over 80 yards myself. Perfect. Kev Clayton built mine. Superb.

The aviators are an absolute joy to play fish on. They are overfit joints as all harrison blanks are . If you go for alps reel seats dont forget to get a size bigger than fuji as you may struggle to fit your reels.

It seems that the manufacturer of Alps reel seats has addressed this. In 2018 I bought a set of Century Graphenes and immediately realised that the slots were a little narrow for my reels ( Daiwa 35 SCWs ). I could probably only get about half of the reel foot into the reel seat slot. I've just bought another Century Graphene as a back up rod and the slot for the reel foot is significantly wider. I did a bit of online research and on the Batson's Enterprises ( an Alps distributor ) YouTube channel there is a confirmation of the upgrade.

If you get the 20mm you'll be ok. But for me getting alps seats is my one regret with my rods. They feel horrible to hold imo, and get really bloody cold in winter . I'd never get them again

How about a set of 2.5lb wychwood SPD's. Beautiful blank and as luck would have it I have a set for sale
