I recently had the misfortune to spend my hard earned money on a trip here, don't get me wrong the fishery is beautiful and the facilities are lovely, however this is the only positive. My long time friend booked this as the website page and literature state it was stocked with 400 fish and additional stock has been added to supplement this, is it just ne of would this imply it's a runs water at 10.5 acres? We arrived to be told that there are now only around 200 fish in the lake, the whole eco system of the lake has now changed and only 10 fish came out in the week, when we challenged the owner he said he will not change his literature and i don't want anyone else to be conned by this i have copied the email from the owner into this thread.

PLEASE DON'T BE FOOLED BY THIS CARLETON OF A LAKE OWNER

I have never said that I have removed 200 fish because I haven't! I said that the stock was around 200 fish.
The website says that the lake was stocked in 2001 with 400 fish between 20 and 55lbs, 24 years ago!

He's right, the site does say what went In and when, it doesn't mention the current stock. Nowhere does it say it's a runs water as you assumed it would be. I think your comments are a little harsh

I agree and with the owner too. It clearly states when the fish were stocked and added to.

Personally I'd never have assumed anywhere near 400 of the fish would still be there after 24 years as a commercial and with natural die off. I'd have asked the Q before booking and been looking at catch reports.

Regards number of fish caught, that's just life. I've blanked on a lake with a fabulous head of fish that normally fishes its nuts off.

Edit, you made a mistake and I think your comments about the fishery owner are out of order.

So neither of you think it should say it has a fish stock of 200 fish if this is actually the real number stocked? We will agree to disagree

Blurb from web site

Winton's is a stunning mature 10.5 acre carp lake situated in the countryside of
upper Normandy, close to the historic village of Rugles. The fishery is within
a comfortable distance of Calais being 3 hours, Dieppe 2 hours and Le Havre being 1 hour
making it a perfect destination for your carp fishing trip to France.

The lake is a mature gravel pit and is over 50 years old. It ranges in depth from 3ft in the margins
to 14ft, with the banks being fully lined with mature trees, overhanging bushes,
and well maintained lawns, creating a beautiful tranquil and secluded lake.

There are 11 spacious swims on the lake with 2 being large doubles. The number of anglers
is restricted to 8, giving ample water to fish and the option of changing swim. The lake
was originally stocked in 2001 with 400 carp ranging from 20lbs to 55lbs.
It has a perimeter fence with secure gates and a safe parking area
for your cars. There are fridges and freezers available and English charging points.

The fishery is now under new management with a new vision, passion and expertise to add
a personal touch the fishery, but keeping its original beauty. A selection of larger fish have been
added to the original stock, the swims have been carefully rebuilt and the toilet and
showers at the main chalet have been completely refurbished and modernised.
An outside undercover meeting and eating area.

But there may be more than 200! Unless it's drained down and a full stock check is done then it really is just a best guess. He's said what went in and when, are you seriously saying you'd expect every one of those fish to of survived for over 20 years? You've assumed there are still 400, and that it's a runs water. 10 fish out in a week is still a lot more than many lakes do in France.

Calling the owner are charleton (I assume that's what you meant) is bang out of order Tbh

Personally I take any blurb with a pinch of salt

Did you fish it correctly as even 200 fish in 10.5 acres is still a fair stock.
What was the weather when you went
Could be loads of variables as to why you or it fished badly.

Never fished it

Ok I have fished many lakes in france, I've been going for over 22 years and had mixed results, I can take a bad week, but haven't blanked for over 15 years, I've fished Etang de Royale, with John and Ben, Then Bay lakes as regular venues, neither of which are or where runs waters, I understand that it's fishing and the variables but it's the fact that it is misleading!! We booked the water for a friend who was coming out to France for the first time to give him a great chance of catching a PB as his current one is 22lb, there probably wasn't a fish in the lake ro challenge my current PB but that wasn't important to me!!

French pbs are not the same as English pbs so at the end of the week if he caught a 50 it still wouldn't beat the 22

what bait did you use??

Ok to put you in the picture, I have commons to 55lb and mirrors to 59lb my uk pb is 38lb but I haven't fished much in the UK for nearly 10 years due to work, but I do go to France at least twice a year, I have a bait boat but still use a marker to find my spots in both silt and gravel with many placed on the edge of both, im not a Noddy and understand the variables!!

Seems to me you probably should have taken a breath and thought about it before coming on here and trying to disrupt somebodies livelihood.

Did you do any research at all into previous catch reports or recent reviews before you booked the lake? I can't see any mention of claims to be a runs water in that blurb?

A certain water in Norfolk claimed it had 1500 fish in it. The initial stocking. Before covid fish coming out. After covid about 1 or 2 a week. Season ticket holders could see this. The manager always claimed you don't know how to fish it. Although we all caught prior. Most of us reckon it had about 150 to 200 at most after covid. It's now to the best of my knowledge still closed (as I don't live in Norfolk now) him his Mrs and daughter all got booted. He kept up the pretense it still had 1500 fish in it. The owners did a survey and it's been shut since.
