I need to get some waterproofs and fancy some army surplus gear rather than get taxed 🙂.
I'm a big man, so what I need to check is sizes, is 190/120 the biggest they do or are there larger sizes? Id rather bigger and baggy than close fit
Also, are these over sized? I seem to remember someone saying they were massive so a pack would fit under the jacket, but I might have imagined that.

190 relates to height. So 1.9metres tall
120 relates to chest size in cm

The best set of waterproofs I have, is the German army "Seyntex Flecktarn" and I would happilly buy another set to replace the one I have now if anything happened to it, very lightweight and comfortable material, you don't feel like your wearing waterproofs and the trousers have braces sewn in which is a big plus, saves having to use a bungee round the waist. Plus, they pack away far smaller than the British army goretex.
The British army goretex I have, I just use for pottering about in the garden with etc
Basically, their is not much difference between Goretex and Seyntex, its virtually the same technology.

When buying German Army Surplus, always be wary of how the seller advertise an item, if they label the size as S, M, L, XL etc, forget it, don;t buy it unless they show a picture of the actual label.
German army clothing has 20 sizes for the likes of jackets , shirts and Parka's etc. Each height size has 5 chest sizes and there is 4 different height sizes. It is the "GR" number that you look for which ranges from GR 1 to GR 20.
The jackets etc can be branded Short, regular, long, Xlong, height wise and for chest size, small, 2 mediums, large and X large but a seller on Ebay will change them to S, M, L, XL so basically, you could end up with a jacket that fits heightwise, but the chest size is completely wrong.
The label will show, the GR number and also the height range it fits and also the chest size.
ie: - "GR 15 185-195 112" which indicates that it would fit someone between 6' 1" - 6' 5" with a chest size of 44"
I once had an argument with a seller on Ebay that sold me some shirts that were to small for me and claimed they were a 40" chest, yet the label when I received them showed it was a 38" chest was crossed out and wrote over with a felt tip 40. And the GR number was also a lower number that I always buy. He claimed that a 38" chest in Germany is the equivalent to a 40" chest in the UK. I told him an inch is an inch wherever you live in the World and 38" in Germany is 38" in the UK. After a week or two he told me to keep the shirts and refunded me. I wised up after that experience. No proper sizes advertised with the item, avoid.
So be wary.

For me though, I'm after British Army surplus and 190/120 looks the biggest size they do

190/120 definitely the largest size in the British.
I hade one years ago when i was 14 stone, (6ft tall).
I found it plenty long enough in the arms and length but very small in the in other areas so sold it on.

I know you want British but I'd look at the German Flecktarn personally, I bought it after Gerry recommended it.
I'm 6'1 and 16 stone and though I bought the correct sizes at the time they came up small and short in the leg, as in when you sat down the ankle rose up way up the leg. I was told this was normal as they're designed to be used and not interfere with boot fixings. I do like a looser fit.
As for the jacket being oversized for a pack underneath, not ime.
These are designed for a certain shape, a fit person and if you have any spread you'll need a size up.
I have 2 sets, one for summer and one for winter to go over a bib/bracelet with fleece underneath.
Read the eBay sellers feedback. While trying to buy the size I wanted I bought from a particular seller and the leg zips broke on every item he sent me, literally the metal pull tag just disintegrated and the zip track was super stiff.
Also read the used description very carefully, some sellers are wishfull. You can get new/none issued every now and then, that's what I went for.
