I'm out on a French venue in around 6 weeks time which stipulates the use of braided mainlines due to the heavy snags. Generally the range is up to 100yds on the far margin. Not being a braid user, apart from spod and marker, i'm after some advice/recommendations having used mono for over 35 years. As it's a one off trip i don't envisage using the braid again as it's banned on my syndicate so the question is do i need to be spending 70 quid on braid when there are good quality more economical alternatives? It's all boat work so no casting so what sinking braid, what breaking strain and would you recommend a fluoro leader not being a seasoned braid user? I am very experienced with boat work and playing/landing fish from them but with mono.

Yes thanks, i've certainly heard great thinks about the TA braid. I guess i was exploring some of the cheaper alternatives given it's a one trip usage, however, if there's not such a thing then i'll have to let the moths out!!!

I thought you might get away with 300m which is about forty quid. Still not cheap I know, however, I'd say that you wouldn't want to get all the way out there and then realise you'd made the wrong choice!

No you don't need to be spending anywhere near that. Have a look on the likes of ebay and Temu etc at the cheap bulk spools. If you're prepared to look at the reviews you'll find some from carp anglers as a starting point. Sea fishing braid has to stand up to far greater rigours than a few branches so don't overlook it.
Diameter isn't a issue at those ranges, and as it won't be near the end tackle neither is colour etc. I guess your only Q is floating or sinking, personally I preferred floating under tension, it still sinks!

Exactly what i was considering but thought i might be able to shortcut the process if there were recommendations from those that had used a certain brand with any regularity. Really interesting point re floating or sinking.......just automatically assumed wrongly i would need sinking

If you can get it, buy Sufix SFX 4x in 0.28 or 0.33mm.
Here in Germany its really cheap at 16€ per 300m and its a superb line that I have used for carp fishing and also sal****er spinfishing under ultra harsh conditions. Its floating but for me this hasnt been a problem and as you are only fishing at 100m this is not a problem as well.
Reg. ebay and Temu there are good ones but most are really bad. I just had a lead flying across the lake because a cheapo braid from ali broke midway when leading around.

Ive just spooled up with the avid braid 600m for £50 0.25mm. Heard good things so might be worth a look for a 1 time use.

I've used Temu braid for ages with a 40-60yd 50lb mono leader in France. Go for 30lb BS braid if you don't need to worry about casting, The mono leader will sink and pull alot of the braid down, at 100yrds it'll be absolutely fine. The leader also makes playing fish less hairy. Playing carp on straight braid is brutal!
