A while ago there was a thread which talked about a bit of kit that you use to press stick mix with and it leaves a hole through the middle for the hooklink to go though.

You could also add stuff to the mix that would let you freeze the finished stick

Anyone remember who sells/sold them (or have a link to the thread)?

There is also the long defunct "Badger Baitbomb" one of which I bought at the "Go Angling Show" when it was at the Birmingham NEC many many years ago, 20+ years ago possibly? which I still use to this day. It was also known as the "Fryers Baitledger" which was embossed into the plastic and all Badger did was stick a label over the top of it.

But, Gardner has carried on with it and is still sold under the name of "Bait Bomb" and there is plenty of them on Ebay. Two different sizes in a twin pack for £9.99, that is a bargain.

I also made my own version of it out of some steel pipe and a plunger out of steel which I used at home. I would just fill it with mix, stick the plunger into the tube, rest it on a kerbstone in the garden and compress it with a great wallop or two from a lump hammer. Then make a hole through the centre with a steel skewer for BBQ's etc and push it out and freeze it.

One thing you have to remember, if you use one that makes a groove down the side and freeze them, when it comes to using them, you have to seal that groove up before casting, if you use a wet mix whilst your fishing, its just a case of insert the hooklength and then give it a squeeze by hand to seal that groove up. If you make them with a hole down the middle and freeze them, you just use a long baiting needle to pull the hooklength through.

Very few people use them, I can cast easily up to 50 yards with one and they are even better if you use a baitboat, but in that case, I find it just as easy to make a ball of groundbait with my hands with the hookbait in the middle or use a "Nash Ballmaker".

The “proper” one is either 20mm or 25mm depending on large or small version
And the guy who makes the carp tart one is also a member on this forum so just support him.

Without the proper versions the copycats won't have anything to make so you will loose both eventually.

In most instances it saves pva.

I've got one, it functions well and I use it when fishing close in, if I'm putting I bit more effort into the cast for distance I still tend to use PVA mesh or bag, it's a confidence thing.

Any ideas what percentage of binding agent (Horlicks or milk powder) I should look at including in a mix?

I'm trying some of the Sticky Manilla spod and bag mix and prepping/freezing before I go.

I'd imagine these just obliterate when they hit the water surface?

If you want them to, by altering the mix they can, conversely they can also be made not too.
Breakdown times can also be changed in the same way.
If you prepare them in advance and allow them to dry out you can basically make the equivalent of pellets with them.
