I have never used a helicopter rig before only a lead clip and hook length, I have been doing research on naked rigs and also the Korda heli safe clip but don't want to be loosing leads everytime I snag in weed, so my question is how safe is a heli rig with a fixed lead

Depends where you put it, same as any rig. If you're worried about it , add a rotten bottom. Just make sure it's strong enough for the casting you intend to do.

A correctly tied rig with a barbless hook is the safest rig out there when it comes to welfare in the event of a break off.

To me there isn't a helicopter rig. It's a set up that can be used with any rig.

The helicopter part comes from the free spinning swivel on the leader / line. But to answer your question a fixed lead is absolute fine as it acts as an anchor in snags that allows the top bead to be pulled of easier when needed.

In and around open water there's no real need to drop a lead. If I'm snag fishing ( up to snags or tight to pads ) I do drop the lead to have direct contact with the fish. But doing this you need to be set up to do so. Fish locked up and have a method to deal with it should they get in the snags
