Hi all , my syndicate has taken the decision to allow bait boats for the first time this coming season :(
I've never had one and did vow not to however i can see the next few seasons being hard without one of everyone else is going to be using them .
I've scanned flea bay and faceache sales for cheap second hand ones and it seems a minefield regarding cost ! I want it as cheap as possible without it being a “toy” one .
Looked at angling technics variants , vipers etc etc etc .
What's the best bang for the least bucks ??
Not after sonar and every other add on going just reliable bait delivery at LOW cost .
being able to strip it down for home repair would be an advantage too , was deep into RC many years ago so do understand what's going on inside

As an entry level, budget bait boat that does exactly what you need and is reliable with good customer service and a good reputation take a look at the Boatman Actor or Actor Plus. I bought a Plus with sonar last year, with bag and a few extras for just over £300 and can highly recommend and backup the great reviews I read when I was looking into this. I'm not a big user of bait boats, this was recommended for a French trip so I bought one and have been using this winter and don't really have any complaints (other than the battery life on the sonar is quite poor)

The boatman vulcan boat is superb. Ive owned an actor plus but the vulcan is better in every way and also slightly cheaper than the plus.

Ive got a lake reaper sitting in the garage. Its 5/6 years old and not been used for a couple of years so could prob do with some new batteries and the controller was a bit temperamental.
Dont want anything for it, but for 100 odd quid for new batteries and controller you would have a perfect little bait boat. If i remember correctly these boats are very easy to service and repair your self as well

If everyone else is using them. Why bother. I fish a water with bait boats and more than hold my own without using one.
They might do better to start with , but with careful though I'm sure you can do better.

Spend your money on a decent boilie bait, and more of it, and spread your bait around, the fish will soon be wary of tight patches of bait, pellet, or particles.

I'd keep an eye on the Angling Technics website - the new owner seems to be really turning things around. I saw he was advertising a used reconditioned Technicat for £450 with a 12 month warranty - a brilliant rock-solid basic bait boat for the money and options to upgrade at a later date with GPS autopilot and sonar etc - you probably won't think you'll need them just yet, but once you've used them you won't want to be without them. Definitely worth emailing them and asking them to let you know if any more come available.
Similarly you're more likely to retain more value with a "better" branded boat, at least vs a lesser known boat, if and when you want to upgrade and sell on.
