Anyone use mono for spodding and using a deeper if so what bs do you use and which make only be used short distance as I absolutely hate braid I can't get on with it at all birds nests after birds nests there's no structure in it to work with don't understand the attraction tbh

I've used a couple of different mono's for spodding, but in 15lb and always with a braid or Amnessia leader. Just pick one that you feel casts well. As you're only fishing at short range I'd go for a 0.37 (15lb ish) or above.
Have a look at the sea fishing dealers for heavy duty clips.
If there's any pike in your waters always use a wire trace. I've witnessed a big pike take a Deeper, it spit it out in the end but he played it it for at least a couple of minutes.
