Looking at the 15lb Kontour or 16lb FTX. Anyone used both? The FTX is a tenner dearer, is it worth it?

Does it have to be either of them? I use 20lb xline and think it's great for the money. 600 meters for around £30 tough as old boots and casts fine after a stretch. Highly recommend that if you're not set on either contour or FTX

I used 20lb XLine when it first came out 15+ years ago and found it too wirey so haven't considered it again tbh. It may well have changed over time though.

Thinking Anglers all the way. I have been using fluro for long long time and in recent years settled on 12lb (breaks 14lb +) Kontour. Tried the new FTX and it's a big step up. As close to mono as any fluro I've ever seen. Expensive, yes, but worth the extra.

Yeah it can be very wirey mate, it just gets better the more you use it. I don't stretch mine anymore and it's really supple now. Granted I've had it on the reels for about 8 months now. The first month or so it does take some stretching 👍

I used tiger line fluorocarbon for a good few years which is quite expansive but the best fluorocarbon l've found but l do like the look of the thinking anglers FTX think it's the colour that's done it,any idea how it compares to that, did fancy the Fox Trans-Khaki but can only find it on 200m spools but the 16lb is 35mm which l think is good, tiger line in 16lb is 33mm.

I put the ftx on my reels about 5 weeks ago, I had kontour on before, the ftx in my opinion is a bit more supple, casts better and I prefer the grey colour of the ftx, I can't really compare to my tiger line as I have that in 20lb so not a fair comparison

I've just spooled up with some (16lb) for the winter, went on very well and not wiry at all for a fluorocarbon, the spool was quite weighty so hopefully it will sink well. I'm looking forward to flicking some baits out pretty soon with it..

Sorry bit of a hijack on the thread but question for Flouro users - was out yesterday for the first time using the fox grey stuff, it seems to almost have chips in the coating after playing one fish. It was a decent scrap but unsure if it's the colour that has made me notice it, have t had it before with Flouro such as the white x line and diawa stuff. I reckon I need to strip off last 30 odd yards.

Kontour is springy . . even in 12lb but solid enough in terms of abrasion resistance in the higher dias . . .haven't used FTX and probably wont bother as I'm 'off' fluros for the time being - try PB Hybron for the best of both worlds!

Been using Kontour in 12lb and it's been OK, mirage is pretty decent too both on 5500 size spools, but for value and similar ability I've gone back to XLine on my bigger pits, just can't fault it

I use the 17lb Kontour, it does what it says, beds down nicely after a few uses - would recommend

had the 16LB FTX on now for a few months after using the 14 (wanted a bit more beef)
both work very well, have only fished up to 24 wraps with the 16lb but does cast well once you get used to dealing with floor ( same for all floor lines I've ever used) the 14lb is a great caster as well.
