Looking to get a new 13ft spod rod , to go with my 13ft set up.
Seeing really good reviews for the Aviator, but also the TX Extreme which looks like very good value too.
I don't fish at range very often, so wondering if it would be worth spending the extra dosh on Harrison, over the TX for my occasional distance fishing forays ?
As a bang average caster, would I see a big difference in performance and also effort demand between the two ?
As always, the caveat is that I live in the U.S., so have to buy sight unseen.
I should add that I already have the original Free Spirit 13ft Spomb rod, but find it a cumbersome and tiring beast, to say the least.
Any insights would be most welcome, as well as any alternative suggestions.

How far are you casting? I rarely fish beyond 100yds (bait boat heretic) but find my 10' CTX SPM is waaay more user friendly (and accurate) than my 13' SLite SPM for ranges up to 80yds . . cannot handle a large Spomb amittedely but small and mid sized Dot Spombs no probs

The aviator spod is an absolute beast. It's a great spod rod but tbh I find it quite hard work under about 70yds
If you aren't fishing at range much go for the shimano

Like belch says - a 10 ft spot is way way easier to use and more accurate for most people up to 70 ‘ 80 yards or so
Then use your current one for occasional distance

I ordered the TX extreme in 12ft but sent it back..the reel seat looked and felt really cheap and the rod was bent like a banana when you looked down it. I would definitely check 1 out in a shop before ordering.

Yeah, I don't have the opportunity to look at a rod first, no Carp shops here in the southern States.
I am lookingbat fishing 100-150bm yards with my 13fters.
I have other rods for close to medium range, which I have well covered.
My 13ft FS Spomb is ok, just a bit heavy and hard work.....

All 13' rods are going to be hefty - My 13' SLite is (and I think I'm right in saying) the lightest of all Freespirit SPMs in this length however its still tiring to use after a bucket full . . . I can however cast it further than my 12' Aviator Plus! Tbf I use a Tourney 6000T as a Spod reel which probably doesn't help (other than my OCD) so perhaps look for a lighter reel when using this type of rod . . .

I bought a 13ft TX Extreme last year - best bit of kit I've bought in years. Combined with an Ultegra reel, Korda spod braid, 6m 50lbs Whiplash leader I can cast a medium Spomb 40+ wraps. For the money the Shimano rods are fantastic value.

The aviator really is an awesome rod, with Harrison you really do get what you pay for. Not sure about the comment someone made about shorter rods being easier and more accurate at short range, never found that to be the case myself. If your budget allows for it, go for it. You won't be disappointed

They're just lighter and therefore less tiring / more user friendly over shorter distances . . .IMO
