Hi.

My friend has got back into carp fishing so we are looking to do a longer session
to see if he can beat his PB of 25lb.

He,s not kitted out to fish at range so looking at venues where he has a chance of a better fish
without casting miles.

Anyone had experience of Whelford Top lake?? Looks nice and and would suit him regarding distance to fish.

Happy to take any other suggestions (Was also thinking Hardwick smiths at Linear)

It's a cracking lake, fish seem to have really grown in the past few years.
Can't see you'd ever need to cast more than about 8 wraps! In fact I think a lot of people do well with baiting pole or small traps given it's an intimate place that gets a decent amount of pressure.

There was a youtube video on there recently, capital carp I think.

I've been once with my lad just for a day session, it seems a decent place. My lad had a mid 20 and he'd only been fishing about half an hour, but he is a lucky sod.

The only annoying thing was a bell end opposite me was chucking right over into my swim, but that didn't last long once I told him. Other than that, it's good.

Beware though, it get's very busy at weekends. My lad went down there for a long weekend with his mates, and afterwards planned on fishing a 24hr session Sunday afternoon until Monday afternoon. He hadn't booked anywhere, and Whelford couldn't accommodate him as it was full. But there is a booking system now. Some of the swims have fairly limited water to fish from memory.

Somewhere else to consider in the same area is Horcott Lakes.
