I have been using 10ft rods with SHIMANO - ULTEGRA 5500 XTD for couple of years, but have moved onto a bigger water and rules say 12ft rods req. So have got a set of Torrix 3lb tc, mostly boat work, so casting isn't an issue. Carp up to high 40's.Tried 14000 and 45mm reels but they are just to big for me. Thinking of getting a set of Daiwa Cast'izm BR 25A , but cant find any in the shops to get a feel of. Anyone using these on 12ft rods? Would they be a good match? Do the job I'm looking for? Are they good reels?
If not, any suggestions of a good reel? Happy to pay around £250 a reel. TYIA

Not certain, but they seem to think 10ft rods won't control the bigger fish at that distance and will wipe other folks rods out. I believe it was brought in to stop people using 9ft scopes or less.

The reels I have are fine, but want to a) leave them on the 10ft set up, I like them set up ready to go when needed, and B) my Mrs will be using them when she comes. She used them on a weeks trip last month and decided her Nash Dwarfs are rubbish lol. I have considered a new set of 5500 ci4's, but kind of fancy the 'bait and run' system. Seemed to be the best of both worlds.

I am a Shimano fan tbh, and the 5500 XTB ci4 is on my radar. Im sure it would do a great job and I have never had an issue with any shimanos and I have 6 sets of them going back 20 years. 400, 500, 600 1000 and the 5500.

Yep, couldn't agree more must of had my 5500 XTB ci4's for 3 or 4 years now and their still like new.

Do like the Daiwa 25mm spool concept - I have Daiwa Whisker 25QDs on my 10's . . . they are effectively a compact big pit and I love em - they are light and cast well at medium distances (to 100yds). Only thing I would say is upgrade to carbon washers as the QD range was too broad for me. There's no reason you could not use them on a 12' rod if you like a lighter reel / weight saving . . the Castizm BR25A however is probably a heavier reel (with the baitrunner gubbins) but if you like a baitrunner then go for it.
If you want a cheaper option why not go for the Emblem BR25As which are the exact same reel as the Castizm variant barring no mag seal / spare spool / slightly different handle nob.
I have a pair on my 12' 2.25 barbel rods and another on my 13' 2.75 barbel rods. . . they balance perfectly and its the only time I use a baitrunner. . .I also like them for the front drag lockdown and the cranking power which on big rivers can be crucial.
