Hi all
I'm after a sleeping bag 5season , warmer the better as I feel the cold and fish all year ,
But something cooler in the summer
Not got a budget open to ideas ,
Will appreciate all your ideas 👍

Couldnt agree more. Bought one not long ago and its superb. By far the warmest bag ive ever owned.

I've got a snugpak techlite and I'm a big lad, no problems with size for me and toastie in the winter. Not sure if it's the best as I haven't tried any others since I started using it, no need.

Gardner Compact Carp Duvet - roomy / versatile (removable layer) comfortable and warm . . .even warmer with a cover. Best bag I've owned to date and the one I've kept the longest - would happily buy another when and if my current one ever dies . .

I've got the Ventec, recently bought it. Certainly seems very warm, but my Avid Thermafast 5 XL is thicker and heavier. Will be interesting to compare the Ventec when winter comes.

If you don't want big and bulky then the Techlite is the one. Very impressive how warm it is for the weight, best bag out there for me.

I must be getting soft in my old age as i found the fortis bag not very warm and felt cold in it and it was only about 7 degrees so not that cold a night. Im 6'3 and i though it was to small and restrictive and i had the bigger version. Pack down size compared to my ventec ripstop xl is like night and day though and the fortis wins that hands down but the fox is miles warmer and has loads more room which i like as i move around a lot and i can pull it right over my head and get inside it if it gets really cold.

Not overly (compared to previous Nash Sub Zero / Fox Ventec etc) Would say they are about the same bulk as a Trakker Big Snooze (if you remove the additional layer) and will fold into most bedchairs no probs . . .

I couldnt get my gardner plus duvet into my cotswold carry bag but i can get my fox ventec xl into it so the fox bag is smaller than my gardner bag. I had to get the gardner carryall for my gardner bag and it was 1 meter long and took up the full back seat of the car. The original fox ventec bag was huge but the latest version is warmer and no where near as big. Im not sure what filling they use in the new one but its briiliant. The ventec outer waterproof layer is the best ive found on a sleeping bag and the same as the bivvy material i believe so totally waterproof. Condensation just flicks off with a little shake.

A few things that make a big difference
if you have your door open or closed if you use a groundsheet or not !
Me personally due to claustrophobia I cant have a door down or the bag zipped up and tried and used probably every major bag out there
the last one I used was the Snugpak Techlite I did however find the cold was coming thru the bottom BUT !!! this was on the windswept banks of the trent in winter with the door rolled up and the zip undone I fixed the problem with a Helium 3.8 Sim this insulation under the bag transformed it the other thing I found if it was really windy and cold I used a Gardner bedchair cover to cover the open zip
a Groundsheet in winters makes a huge difference as it stops the damp cold from under your bed

I rarely fish after october Gerry, i never use the front or groundsheet either as i also dont like being zipped in completely. I dont suffer from claustrophobia but have a fear of being trapped inside of things.
