Thinking of a 6ft rod for my son. Wondering what to get him. Will use in France when I'm fishing and he will use a float.

The Shakespeare Omni gets great reviews for its price, and at that price its disposable. Have a read of the reviews, it's up there with rods double and triple it's price. Shakespeare are throwing some good rods at the mo at unbelievable prices, the Agility fly rod was lauded at only £60 by a lot of very experienced anglers.

When I last went with the family my son was fishing with my 10ft rods and caught carp to over 40lb. My daughter has a little pink rod (Miss Piggy by Matt Hayes I think it is), and we caught plenty of good quality roach and pumpkinseeds using maggots we bought from a local tackle shop. If there is a decent head of silvers in the lake I wouldn't worry too much as they will go for the float rod whilst most of the carp are conditioned on pellet and boilies, so whilst there is a chance of hooking a carp I would suggest it's low

Just to add to that, when the Mrs was messing about for pumpkin seeds she tried bread, what worked but even better a little bit of yellow marker braid on the hook. At another lake she and the father in law used a hand line, some nylon pulled of our spool, a littte pop up weight on the line and a small piece of tinfoil on the hook, the Perch loved it..lol
Funny how those memories stick but if you ask me what I caught I couldn't tell you!
