Can anyone recommend some sort of strap that I can wrap around the bedchair frame underneath the mattress to prevent sag?

Luggage straps will do the job. if you don't want to swop the elastic for parachord.

I just used the standard camo stuff from millets I think. The tip I would say is that buy yourself some cheap big cable ties and use these all the way round before you thread the cord. This way you can really take out all the stretch and far easier to knot the cord.
