I have been dabbling a bit with Chods recently but there is something I have been wondering...
Does a bite register differently on the bobbin compared to fishing a Lead Clip/Running?
If yes, when should i be picking up the rod?
Forgive me if this is a dumb question but i have very little experience with Chods.
My chod setup currently is about 4ft of lead core leader with an extra ft at the end to keep the weight away from the bottom bead. The beads separated nearly the whole length of the lead core.

Depends on how the fish react? I've had everything from full blown panic mode, breamy head shaking on the spot, and just a slow steady departure from the area.
I use braid, so it's quite easy to determine the reaction.

Keep the beads as close together as possible for the given situation.

Echo this. I have had all sorts. Full on screamers to a single bleep and the line twitching. It all depends on the fish's reaction.
I do think you should take the advice of post #3 though. Have the beads set as close together as you can for your angling situation. If fishing over clearer areas I have the bottom bead 6inches up to counter any silt and crap with the top bead normally 3 inches above that.
In weed I will set the bottom bead however high it needs to be depending on the weed height and then the top bead minimum a foot above that in case there is any longer strands and so it can settle nicely on top of anything.

Personally I don't use the beads close together, always at least 18in apart but usually more.

I fish it free to run, putting the bead as high as 3/4 up the leader - never had issues with this.
I will advise to use a buffer section at the lead, especially if your using anything over 1.5oz.
ESP and TA make a buffer section - I just copied this concept with some tubing.
Love chod fishing, throwing stick and a nice spread of baits - easy fishing.

ive had fish on the chod come right up in the water when hooked, bite registered on the alarm but bobbin still on the deck fishing slack lines, I've looked at the line and it's been twitching, looked at me spot and the fish almost on the top trying to deal with being hooked

I guess a back lead would prevent this but thats only when using a chod to overcome leafy deadbris on the bottom as opposed to primary purpose of overcoming weed higher up in the water column

Cheaper alternative to a buffer section would be to tie a knot in the leadcore (only do this with leadcore!) about 6inches above the lead. I can honestly say despite peoples preconceptions regarding hook pulls, In two years I've only lost one, and that was a 3lb mirror which managed to get rid of a size 5 at the net.
