I'm looking for a roving rod setup , it's for stalking /roving at my local ponds.
Firstly the rod needs to be quite short , 6 to 9ft and be bombproof as it will take a lot of abuse.
Not interested in Nash scopes , but would consider Century , Harrison etc.
Reel needs to be well balanced with the rod , ideally Shimano , Okuma or Diawa.
What would you recommend.?

Had Century T1 and S1 stalker rods before. Still praise century rods in terms of built quality and blanks but now use YAC 3-piece Harrison stalkers with SS2600 and Nash 2lb Sawn-off scopes with SS1600 reels. Was a bit sceptical before about the scopes, but these are actually a pretty nice stalking rod even in hit and hold situations. Use the YAC-stalkers for most of my general fishing but for tight swims they can't beat the scopes.
Sold the century's because of the unpractical 1-piece length of the T1 and the uneiven rod lengths of the S1 I didn't get used with. If I would buy one of them again it would be the T1.

Harrison 3 piece 9ft stalker. Lovely action and can be left set up in boot of car.

I had this set up years ago when they first came out quality build but for me it's a lot of faffing around setting up and packing away 3 sections I had a 2 rod set up I think retractable would be better it's a shame that a top brand don't make a retractable as I would be interested

What type of reel would people recommend for this type of setup, I am really a Shimano man.

I use a 9ft Wychwood Extricator ( original ) and my son uses the newer version.
They have been excellent for us, more than enough power in tight spaces, both used with Shimano Baitrunners.

I use Nash scope in 9ft 2.75 for my smaller waters. On real tight pegs the 6ft 2lb scopes come out

Well based upon suggestions on here I went with the Wychwood plus rods in 9ft , they were fifty percent off online so picket one up for 59 pounds , I thought long and hard about the Harrison but I felt the rod is going to take a lot of abuse , so it's a bit hit at 300 pounds if it gets broken whereas the Wychwood is a fraction of the cost and looks very good and gets great reviews.
