I'm fishing a large, deep water with a fair head of carp. My tactic has been to bait an area with a large amount of maize, buckwheat, tigers and boilies. Its working with some fish already taken. With the cooler weather, high pressure and an easterly wind I don't feel the fish have visited the area and fed since Saturday but I've continued to bait. How long does it take before the bait is unpalatable to the fish due to it going off? I'm in 20'. Thanks.

I think you should be fine for at least a couple weeks to be honest.
A decent boilie will gas up and float off when it goes, tigers will last a good while then also float up. Some people use mouldy maize on purpose so i doubt that will be an issue.
Mega low pressure for up to a week now too

Baited Sunday morning after my last fish. Not since. No bites or shows over the baited area and very little seen elsewhere. Not surprisingly national reports indicate a brief hiatus in feeding following the frosts and high pressure. The subjective decision to bait or not to bait now might not be so critical if the bait stays palatable for longer. They'll find it eventually. Just hope I'm here when they do.

I was thinking that, its not summer with standardised temps, and going into winter I'm not sure the brief hiatus theory will work.
I've posted once recently about my experience of a deeper water. IMo the fish will move to a depth/thermocline where they feel comfortable and as winter progresses it will change all the time. You may be able to access that depth on the bottom or via zigs.They may or may not hold in a area or they may move around in that level, and they may venture out of it from time to time but as it gets colder my experience is that it becomes less frequent.
But its all guesswork based on experience, seems to be a fair constant though applicable across fishing disciplines.

His point os that the bait might be the most palatable bait there's ever been, but if they are all holding 15 foot above it, it's not getting eaten.
