I have been looking at the videos of these New Direction magnetic Butt Rests
and wondered if YOU own a set and can give an honest review

I had a set ,they are pretty decent although imo the magnet isn't strong enough for fishing locked up. But for general angling in any other situation they are spot on

I've had mine a few years now. Totally agree with post#2. Good for general fishing but not for locked up.

Good choice Gerry. The thing I like about them is that they can accommodate any diameter rod butt. So you can use full duplon/cork or an abbreviated handle.

TBH I bought some Jag lockdowns and not my cup of tea at all I think they are well over rated
but lots love em mine will be going in classifieds soon

I've had a set for maybe three years, bought them for piking due to them connecting to the rods as it meant i could drop my rod back on the rests knowing they would line up perfectly with the drop back indicators, since then i've used them for all carping and piking, even snag fishing (but I only fish days and sit on top of my rods). My thoughts:
Pros:
- rods line up perfectly every time just by putting them back on the rest;
- solid rod hold on pod or sticks but easily releases on the pick up;
- only once seen them detatch on a run due to a full wraparound while fishing under the tip, they've held strong every other time
Cons:
- you can lift a lightweight pod easily on a strike if you forget you are using them;
- if you place the rod onto soil or rough ground while unhooking you can pick up stray ferrous in the soil with the magnets;
- although still going strong the rubbers are perishable and will need replacement at some point.
I'll happily buy more if and when the time comes to replace my existing.

I use different rods my absolute favourite being full cork handles proper fishing rod feel !! function over fashion every time
but sadly my 10ft rods were not available with cork handles so these magnetic rest are perfect for any size handles unlike the Jag Lockdowns that I would have to ponce about changing the inner grips

Just like me Gerry, I use mine on both cork handles and abbreviated handles. The only thing you have to remember is to detach them from your rods after every session. Otherwise you could be leaving them on your rods at home!!!

I've got a set, I liked the fact I knew they'd work with rod butt size no matter what. My only gripe is sometimes having the bit strapped to rod annoys me. Nothing significant just it's there with a tag sticking out when handling the rod.

I use the bank bug v2 for snag fishing and never had an issue
