Ive just ordered a spare spool for the above in order to load it with 0.28 J braid.
Does anyone have experience doing this? How much backing line should i put on the spool before loading 300m of 0.28 braid. T.I.A.

It's very difficult to guesstimate the "bulk" of braid because the diameter isn't always a true reflection of just how it will pack down onto a spool.
You can do this, it's a bit long winded but the end result will be perfect...
Load the braid onto the spool, then fill the spool with mono backing.
Then empty the spool onto an empty line bulk spool using a drill and something to make a spindle. An old pen and several turns of masking tape works well. You will now have the braid on the top.
Transfer the line onto another empty bulk spool, now the braid will be on the bottom.
Now transfer the line onto your reel, keep the backing and top braid line under some tension, reel it through a damp tea towel. The braid will now be on the top.

Thanks, I was hoping to save a bit of time, but it looks like I'll have to do it the long way. As you say, at least it will be spot on.

If this is the original emblem spod I wouldn't really use any backing with 300m of .28. I would do 20 or so turns of mono just to grip the spool and stop the braid spinning, then just wind it on. I always under fill any braid spools as it helps prevent wind knots on the cast. The soft braid doesn't rattle against the lip of the spool like mono so I don't find the under fill affects distance.

Bit of a guesstimate really. If you give it a go and it's under filled, wrap the braid onto sticks and add more backing then wind the braid back on.

I would use a cheap mono to back it noting the line diameter and use an online calculator which will tell you have much braid you'll need to put on after.

Of course as said before the true diameters maybe slightly out.there will be a tolerance .

Ok time to admit to a schooboy error. I had a spare spool which fits the spod reel, but is from a different reel, I did not realise that the capacity of this spool is greater. I wound the whole 300m on to it and it filled it nicely. I put just enough .35 mono on the spod spool to line the spool. Wound the braid on expecting to lose a bit at the end. I only got about half of it on. Spod spool is shallower than the fishing spool. I have just put it on distance sticks so I know exactly how many yards are on there. 160 yards.Fortunately this is more than enough for the distances I need to spod. So if anyone needs to know in future 300m of 0.28 will be more than enough to fill the spod spool without any backing.

I've just changed the sharks tooth line clip to an impact clip from reel king custons. Talk about fiddly. They supply a spare spring and e clip. Just as well as i needed both. Only took a few minutes, after watching a u tube vid on how to do it.
