Been doing a bit on the rivers and using 18”+ hooklinks I'm getting through hooklink material like no tomorrow. I've used esp tungsten loaded for years and think it's the best coated braid out there but it only comes in 10m spools.. not as fussy for the rivers and after something a bit more economical. I see various different brands do 20m spools, was looking at thinking anglers camskin. Any users? Does the coating break when you bed down a knot? Any other recommendations would be much appreciated. Coating must be tough as when I've tried others in the past the coating has broke at the knot and the esp stuff never does which is why I love it.

Rather than using coated braid I use a mono/braid combi for my barbel fishing.
2-3ft of mono, ending in a size 8 swivel. I then join a short braided hooklength to it using a loop.
The swivel adds a bit of weight to stop the hooklength wafting around and it might help prevent spooking fish.
I can have several braided sections ready to change if a hook becomes blunted.
12lb drennan supplex mono and cheapo china braid.
If you are carping then you can easily adapt the lengths to suit.

Ditch that, Korda 30lb sinking armacord for me, absolutely superb, great around the rocks etc. get the 50m spool. I then use a small ring on the end and then fasten the hooklink on loop to loop

I like my Gardner Ultra skin soft, probably best coated braid I have ever used. I did read a lot about the tungsten loaded ESP so I bought some and never liked it and caught less on it.
When I compared it to the Ultra skin, measuring a foot of each and dropping them in a bucket of water the ESP sinks slower and its not that heavy. Basically, the ESP is far lighter, length for length simply because its far thinner so I doubt it even "pins down" on the bottom like its claimed to do with it being "Tungsten Loaded.
The only issue I do have with Ultra Skin is, a rig lasts a long time, but eventually it will go all curly. I think its because sometimes the outer coating gets stretched whilst playing a fish if it goes through weed etc and then it does not go back into shape because of the inner braid.
