Looking at getting a set of these with the 50mm rings in black edition from Johnson Ross.

Anyone got a set and can leave some feedback please?
Currently have a set of Torrix 3,1/4 black edition full shrink wrap, had them just over a year , they look nice and perform ok but I want something that can chuck a bit further. Torrix aren't the best playing action either in that test curve.

Have a word with mark tunley.
He is very familiar with both brands you mention and from my experience he produces a better finished rods than off the shelf.

I'd agree with getting them custom built for sure. The build quality will be far better than the factory builds which can be very hit and miss.

I had a set custom built very similar to these by Kevin Clayton with Minima rings. They're a superb rod covering most bases and the build was amazing. If those advertised come with the FS black reel seats, be careful as the paint tends to come off the collars...

Any one have experience with the ti forged rings? They are anti frap.
I have the Kigan 50mm on my Torrix at the moment and they look and perform great.
Tackle box make rods to custom spec so I've asked for a quote of the rod in the link but with full shrink. Will these be better than off the shelf rods? They are saying 6-8 week lead time. Or is it better to shop elsewhere?

In terms of 'off the shelf' quality I've got some Raven edition Aviators from JR and the build quality is pretty good tbf!

I just purchased 2 rods from the tackle box they are the Tb special that is the black edition but they keep the blue whippings on the rod, there is also a selection of different handles including full shrink. The build quality is fantastic and would be alternative to getting them built straight from free spirit. As for the hi's Ive er it is a fantastic rod will cast a long way but I cannot believe how forgiving it is playing a fish. I had free spirit es rods before which are a 12 foot 2 3/4 lb test through action rod and these don't even feel stiff compared to them. The tip section is soft then the mid section is stiffer but playing a fish I feel more in control with the HI's.

Is there much difference between minima guides and the vortex air appearance wise? Johnson Ross are saying the vortex are a better ring set but I've never had any problems with minimas on my Torrix I love them!

Very similar in looks vortex are supposed to be stronger come in both matt black and silver chrome . I prefer the AT delta guides braid friendly
