I had to fish off a raised platform with swans in the margin, so I kept the rod tips high and used backleads, so the Swan could swim under the rods or over the line. However I'm sure I missed some fish because of the backleads affecting my indication. I've never used Fluorocarbon line. Would it achieve the same objective. Also club has a max line dia of 0.37mm. Which line would be suitable? Maximum casting distance required about 80yards. Would my 5500 reels be OK, or would I need to use my okuma 8k?

I have the same swan issue as yourself , I just fish with my rod tips close or under the surface and use a light 1/4 oz back lead off the tip , you can fish semi slack lines like that , and with a bolt type rig it works fine , if you are using running rigs then maybe not so sensitive and fluro may be the way to go .
Maybe worth a go before you invest in fluro, which also comes with its issues ?

80 yards with 17lb x line on my ultegra's 5500 is ok, easier with 14000's
Keep the line clean, fluorocarbon seams more prone to collecting debris to me.
Not sure why that should be, but I clean it every couple of casts and at end of session.
