What does everyone use to protect the line near the lead when using a naked helicopter ? If anything.

Over the lead loop, Either a piece of thick walled neoprene sleeve, or a couple of pieces of heat shrink tube ( double layered) and a couple of beads above that.

Old fashioned, plastic i guess, korda anti tangle tube, protruding 1, 1.5 cm through a sleeve, and with some saliva a bit fixed over the knot holding the swivel for the lead. I have found the nash sleeve ok, but it tears and deforms a bit too fast imo.

Ill be using a korda heli safe so I was thinking maybe pushing a short length of tubing into the top which should hopefully stay in place maybe

I've used the Thinking Anglers 'Naked C-clip buffer beads' to good effect. Have never experienced any line damage despite some decent fish/fights.
I believe fox also do a very similar product.

I use a heli-safe connect to about 2” of lead free leader, with the top stop up the mainline. As it's only 2” of the leader material it'd take a very pedantic bailiff/owner to count it as an actual leader.
