Are there regulations as to minimum distances required from the floor and also a worktop to the bottom of a plug socket?.

I'm not a spark, but do a lot of chasing for them and I do plenty of boxes within 150mm of the floor, so if there is, it's not a lot

Not qualified but I've looked into this as I've just installed more sockets into my 1930s house.
If it's a new build then yes, there is a minimum distance. Not 100% sure but from memory it's about approx 400mm from the socket to floor level.
If it's an existing property with low level sockets then the regulation doesn't apply, you can install new sockets to match.

It's 450 from finished floor level for sockets and 1200 for switches

If I lived in an house that was not a new build but wanted to put in extra plug sockets would I have to put these extra plug sockets at 450mm from the floor or could I put them as low as the existing ones?. Edit. I note that tinhead has answered this question - thank you.

16th or 18th edition wherever we are now. EVERYTHING you need to know. Sure it will be on Google, try the on site guide

A lot of it is down to interpretation.
If you're still unsure try ringing building control.

The problem is, many of the rules are open to interpretation, so the only person who can really answer it is the bloke who'll be putting his name to it.
