Do these liquids, soaks etc actually work ❓
I'm not convinced, is it just another bait to hook the anglers ❓
Is there any actual evidence of their efficacy, or is it subjective /marketing ❓

String to the bow in my opinion. Same reason for using various items in a spod mix, just extra attraction
Those Mainline smart liquids seem to be proving quite popular.
To me you are able to put much more attraction in the water with less food items available aside from your hookbait... I'd think they are definitely not doing any harm in most instances

That depends on what liquids you are using. Some imo undoubtedly make a big difference, others not so much.

I always dip my boilies into a liquid before casting, I don't know if it helps but I feel a little more confident.

I do that too,I just think it helps take any smells off the bait from me handling it

Ditto. I also soak 5-6 Cell pop ups in the Cell glug a few days in advance as well as dipping just before a cast.
The theory is that my hookbait stands out from the free offerings around it and it may be all theory but it's caught me and more about personal confidence.

Same as most things in angling. I'm sure there are times they'll work for you, times they'll work against you and other times when it won't make a blind bit of difference.

TCarper shared something on here that I really li'ed regards honey and warm water across all baits not just hookbaits, worth looking up. Before this I was always a bit sceptical about liquids, I like his method as I believe it gets the baits working quicker (I am mainly a day angler) and also gives a slight sweet coating. Unsure what thread it was on.
I also know someone who makes hydro ‘everything' and whilst it may work, the amount of things he tries I'm not sure he catches because of or in spite of! Therein lays the problem with adding liquids, another variable that can't really be monitored when chopping and changing loads of bits.

Anyone tried Rapeseed oil? Was using it the other day while cooking and it smelt very similar to hemp oil?

I also am not convinced , the various glues, dips, oils, hydros etc have never made a huge difference to my catch rate.
I also wonder by the time bite time comes around whether any of those various liquids etc are still in the area or have been washed away !
I've fished alongside others on my lake who use all sorts of glug, hydro's etc , but they don't seem to catch any more than myself , if they did I'd obviously use them.
When stalking and watching Carp feed and pick up the hookbait, baits straight out of the bag or fresh particle has been just as effective as baits soaked in something or other. This also goes for gloopy tiger nuts, I've found those not gloopy just as effective as the sticky wasp attracting ones , and easier to use .
I'm sure putting your bait in the right area whether it's soaked in something or not is far more important.
The caveat is always if it gives you more confidence to use these things, then it's probably worth it.
