Whats the reccomended breaking strain of mono for chucking 3.0 - 4.0 oz leads?
How far are you chucking them? My 2.75lb tc horizons can handle 3.5oz and I've put them 100 yards ish without a dedicated leader on 10lb sensor. I'd imagine beyond that I'd need a leader to give it a big chuck but for general fishing 10 or 12lb line straight through would be minimum I'd be using

I have 2.75 T/C rods and will be chucking upto 100 mtrs. Wouldnt have dreamt 10lb would be strong enough for 3.5oz leads.

Only thing I use instead of mono straight through is lead free leaders but only 2ft long or so, so it doesn't act as a buffer anyway. I've never cracked off even with 4oz but at shorter distances. My rods are quite stiff for the tc so feel I need the heavier leads but like I said, I've never had an issue. I'm using 3oz leads with a baited rig and have no issues hauling it. Never had problems with pva bags with 2kz leads in at 50 yards or so either

110 yards with 3.5 ounce lead straight through no leader.
I'd say 0.35 (good strong 12lb mono) minimum in my humble opinion.

12lb sensor is 0.32 and is bombproof. But for a big chuck that's the minimum I'd go for, 10lb would be for closer in stuff. The 12lb though is thin enough to cast well and be robust enough for the job if long casts. I'm a poor caster as well but have never had an issue launching with this line and like I said. I've been OK with 4oz leads on the rare occasion

12lb as a bare minimum ,any kind of range then either add a leader or step up to 15. Any less is a risk not worth taking. 3+Oz of lead travelling at who knows what speed can cause a hell of an injury or worse in the event of a crack off

What anyone else does is irrelevent, it depends on your casting technique, your rods, and to some extent the line your using, but if it helps....and historically this refers to Sensor only.
I have a very progressive cast normally, but I will change it depending on the rods. Using my 3.5lb Ballistas I can get away with that progressive cast, even push it a bit harder throughout the cast, 12lb wouldn't bother me at all. Using my old FX4's the progressive cast is useless, they require a lot of short sharp force to wind up and I wouldn't use them without a leader.
I wouldn't hesitate to go down to 10lb with a leader and possibly 8lb if I had to, but what's between me and the lead would also play a part in that. If fishing over a bar I wouldn't go that low and if I can't get there with bigger line I wouldn't fish there. I'd also be very wary of fishing toward another angler using lighter line JIC...common sense really.

If you have decent powerful long distance rods you'll snap any 0.35 line easily and a 0.4 line will fail quickly as well whacking out a 4oz lead 30 plus wraps, Tapered mainline is the only safe way to go.
If your only fishing up to 20 wraps you'll get away with lighter line no problem, it's just the strain fast taper rods put on line when going for big distances with big leads that'll cause you a problem.

I use the 23lb (0.4mm) exocet pro without a leader and its never snapped on me..in fact I caught a bucket when casting full beans with it last year and managed to snap my rod, the rod went 1st then the line, I think the line went when the bucket landed behind me.. note to self..check behind you before casting
