Just out interest, how many are in actual syndicates as opposed to limited membership season tickets venues, that call themselves syndicates?
I'm a member of a shoot that is a true syndicate, with an AGM where all members have an equal vote on the running and management, and also a fishery that purports to being a syndicate, but isn't, so I know the difference.

I belong to a so called syndicate,belongs to a well known tackle company.70+ members @ £650 each........
We never have an input as to what goes on , never have meetings,it's all about money making,if you don't like it leave

Post 2 spot on, post 3 yes but it's stuck.
I've been in a club that was more like a real syndicate than any syndicate I've been in (that's not necessarily a criticism of those syndis times are different)
The club meetings were so friendly, always the same faces, no one else had the time, such is modern life. Smokey vaults, a few pints...lovely ( I didn't/don't smoke).
I guess the definition of syndi has evolved but there are still true syndis out there, closed shop, invite only, some not Carp, those with Carp maybe not even of any size, just old beauties but the people are joined by a common cause and it doesn't necessarily have a weight or name.

A syndicate can only be so, if all members have an equal say/vote in the running and management, all sharing the costs equally, if it doesn't it's not a syndicate, but a limited membership season ticket.
Of course a leader can be chosen, but that choice must be made by all members in a vote.
The word syndicate is used to give kudos and come over as somewhat exclusive, IMO, but is blatantly wrong.

And I agree with your opinion but we are in the minority now, a very very very small minority.
Words are fluid as are most things in life nowadays, once it becomes a accepted norm to the masses the old meaning will become secondary to the modern meaning dropping further and further down the ranks, until it'll probably disappear.

I was until the owner died and the cow of a niece who was left everything kicked us off this year. 7 of us, shared all work etc. All decided what to spend membership money on and a cracking little lane with 35 fish up to nearly 50lb. Been a bit lost since we got kicked off as not sure where to go.

I only know of one true syndicate where you essentially buy into a lifetime share. Two grand gives you a 1/30th of a share of the lake and the land around it. In the future, if the syndicate decide to sell up, everyone gets a cut of the sale. If you purchase 2 shares, you get a bigger cut and so on, and so on....

I can imagine how you feel , that's terrible
I've had a few interesting convos with a neighbour who's very well regarded in the club world, he's in his 80s, still actively involved in a very big club. From his, other friends and my own knowledge as a former committee member there are/were so many clubs folding that even the bigger clubs were picking and choosing what they wanted, a far cry from years past. In the Cheshire area I'm aware of quite a few lovely ponds where the owners were approached by Carp anglers who took them on. I enquired as to one, was sorely tempted, but tbh I wouldn't know enough people to trust with MY hard earned friendship with the owner over the years.
Outright ownership is getting more expensive as the price of farm land has rocketed over the last 2 decades, especially now investors are getting more involved, I guess its harder and harder to form a owned syndicate, though not impossible. A leased one even by word of mouth contract is possibly the only future, but does that mean true sydis like Aideys are a thing of the past....hmm...I hope not.
