Does anyone know why they are still selling them with crap line clips? They're not exactly entry level reels.

In the days they designed these reels the line clips have been there to just hold line, not to clip and casting distances.
A piece of marker elastic makes them usable, or upgrade to weston line clips.
I use them just as they are with marker elastic.

They havent bothered updating the internals to make them smoother, in however many years, so why would they update the line clips. Plenty of people still buying them

weren't they originally designed for shore fishing, and carp anglers realised the benefits of huge spools etc

People only buy them for the old school look i reckon. Many other reels have superceeded them now and are cheaper. The originals do last forever though abused mine for 16 years and they were still going strong when i sold them 7 years ago.

I get some people buy them for look/fashion then spoil them quick drags etc.
I've used them for donkeys years great clutch and bomb proof.
The line clips don't bother me as that's not how I fish,lots of carp anglers from different era s want different things I guess.
Nowadays there's a lot more manufacturers making decent/ reels,after market line clips etc I don't see the need to upgrade them.

He s saying the clip on the 6000 has always been the big one.Different to the 5000
I don't use 6000 but that's how I read it
