Looking to get a set of 10ft 3.5 retractable rods. Nash and ESP's offerings are the ones I'm looking at. What do you all recommend? The Nash is a bit dearer but if it's a much better blank I'd pay the extra

Having used both the Quickdraw is more in line with the Nash Dwarf/Sonik Xtractor in terms of quality....Scope is a better blank IMO

Had quiet a few of the retractable rods now and the scopes were for me the best of the bunch, i currently have the sub surface retractables which i believe are the American tackle blank so very very similar in appearance to the scope but they feel a bit softer, thats most likely due to the difference in length though as my scopes were 9ft and the subs 10ft, can't give an honest appraisal of these yet though as i have only used them once. I liked the quickdraws but when casting heavy loads the butt section had a habit of twisting, perhaps user error by not engaging the telescopic section enough but i never had this with the scopes, preferred the ringing pattern on the quickdraws though. The insurgents were lovely rods but the handle length just felt too short and the Cotswold pace (ultimate bionic) really surprised me how good they were but i had blank finish issues with the blank varnish bubbling.

You can't compare esp drennan to Nash imo scopes might be ok but overpriced

I've had both Scopes and QuickDraw. The Scopes definitely had a better blank, the ESP in 3.5 are pokers. Not sure if I would pay the extra on the new price between the two, but you can get decent prices on Scopes 2nd hand.

Pack down and boot storage (pussy whipped) is the only advantage.
Then add in the wear on the sliding telescopic section and it's a time bomb.
Seen a couple of rods where the middle section comes right out of the butt due to fine grit wearing away at the very shallow tapered pieces.

This is my concern - not that I'm ever going to buy a set but as assumed they seem to be a bit of a gimmick - for the £ I'm not sure how stock Nash Black Ops can actually compete against premium 10' custom builds that are available for less money!

It's the name clever marketing have you ever wondered why are they called black ops
my mate has black ops had a few problems tip broke also while netting a fish with the black ops net with fish in lake and pole was not fixed to spreader so had to wade in to get net with fish
it's oldest trick in the book put a fancy reel seat on make the rod look better then put a high price on them
Companies did it years ago selling a cheap rod put a Fuji reel seat on put the price up as it makes the rod look better as carp fishing now is all about looks
I remember when a lot of these companies started up there gear was very good but now a lot is poor quality with poor customer service

Cheers for the replies all. Some good points made, who makes a decent 10ft 2 piece out of interest?
There's a lot of canopy swims and poke holes on one of my venues and a 10fter would be just the job

For me extending rods serve a purpose for boat fishing. The pack down size is handy, you can collapse them when moving around and I don't care about casting ability.
I had the standard mk2 Scopes, bought 2nd hand for £100 a rod. They took a battering, looked exactly the same and I sold them for the same price a couple of years later.
I agree that 50mm rings and Alps on a little retractable rod is daft, but who really cares. Let the tarts be tarts, I'm sure the shiny rods look lovely next to a £3K ‘carbon fibre' bait boat on one of those little stands.
