A new lake I've just started fishing is covered in silkweed, literally it's everywhere across the bottom and thick in some areas, horrible stuff to deal with I'm sure you would agree.
Question is how do you normally approach fishing it? I.e. rigs etc Chods? Ronnie?
I mean there are some areas one one side in the margin which are clear but they are where there are lots of old tree roots...

I fished a lake years ago very similar and I did really
Well on hinge stiff rigs. Left around a foot between beads to allow it to rest over the top.
One big issue you can find is it moving with tow, if it's like the lake i fished it can mask your hook so always worth checking as regular as possible. I'd reset a few hours before bite times

long chods or stiff hinge rigs. light leads around 1.5oz. foam it up on the cast and will set down well. another thing worth doing when baiting, is do your free offerings in halves they sink through the water column slower and setlte on the top of the silkweed rather than in it.

Don't fish anywhere near the black stuff. It may not seem like it but there will be clear hard areas find them or fish in the new fresh thinner silk weed

Doing 48h on a lake that has plenty of the stuff on the bottom, I'm going to make some whopping great bags and Chuck them at it. Whether this'll work I've no idea.

I'd drop a big solid bag in to it so that the bag crashes right through it and present a wafter on a short hair. I wouldn't personally have confidence in anything else not knowing if your snagged up.

Forget Ronnie rigs, they sit too low to the bottom, often into the weed, from when I've been in the water checking them.
I prefer a D-rig Multi-rig, inside a PVA bag, with the lead outside the bag(
), so that the bait is just about the silkweed.
I'm also not a fan of helicopter setups, so Chod rigs are out for me.
I've had too many funny bites and hookpulls, lack of indication on helicopter rigs, so I only use them when casting long distances.

silkweed is great to fish over imo, my lake has quite a bit of silkweed, comes in on hook and lead every time. I just fish a slow sinking stiff hinge rig, long hook link and the hook section a couple inches. If you are planning on using a bottom bait/wafter then a barbless hook is a must

are we all talking about blanked weed, I thought silkweed was the really fine, soft stuff, but it's blanked weed the covers most lakes.

Blanket weed is the candy floss stuff, and as said, is actually filamentous algae and a mare to deal with. Silkweed is the fine 'strandy' hair like weed, and in my experience I agree with the helix rig, bead set at least 12 inches up the leadcore, and a very critically balanced pop up principle.

it's the other way around..
blanket weed is what you get in ponds and is really like a blanket ..silk weed is the stuff you occasionally get in lakes but mostly in streams and rivers..(it only grows in shallow water)
it's called silk weed because it is like silk, almost falls apart in your hands..
