Hi I have been looking at buying a set of these but before I buy, for the first time ever I'm gonna ask before I part with the cash.
I'm assuming these are the exact same reel internally but i could be wrong. Is one better than the other in one way or another? Am I missing something as the black edition are I few quid cheaper online. I was told and don't know how true it is that the paint finish on the blacks will last longer. Is there any truth in this. I'm told on the 5000t reels the paint peels? But on the other hand I hear nothing but good things about these reels "work horses" "bomb proof" any help will be greatly appreciated,

Also just noticed 5000t have 7 bearings and the 5000be have 5 so there must be some internal difference

Ignore any coffee grinder comments, its just the grommets on the line guard, keep the metal guards well oiled and grommets and some oil on the spool rim at bottom of spool. As reels go they are hard to beat, cannot say I am a fan of the black ones, I had a set, cheap finish imo. The blue ones will have paint chips (especially around the feet), part and parcel of a tournie. One thing you will never ever experience with these unlike the Shimano and some other Daiwa reels is line going under spool. Parts readily available if needed, upgrades etc but I like the faster oscillation. Only thing I have changed is I've got Weston black shallow spools, hold 230m of 0.35mm line so can do all 3 spools with a bulk spool. The line clip is also fantastic compared to self fit ones for original spools, carbon drag (doesn't make much difference to me) and no rubber ring needed on the spool either. That said, they are £70 a pop.

Cheers mate thanks for that, Much appreciated. And this is the exact reason I'm switching to daiwa from my shim xtd constantly having to take off the spool with lead out in lake just to retrieve line from under my spools. By far the worse reels I have had for line going under the spool.

ive got a set of both the black and blue tournies, both with weston slow oscillation gears. Prefer the old skool look of the blue tbh, but bothe are bombproof. I swapped from shimano big pit to these, and not looked back

there are two bearings in the handle of the 5000T, that'll be the difference 👍

Owned original SS then the first tournament 5000 and can't why people pay silly money for the SS as the 5000T is a better reel. Did consider getting the black edition some time ago but giving up session fishing and having had time and spoken to a few owners I would buy the standard blue/ grey ones as I feel they have a better finish not just on the reel body but he spools as well and look better than all the trendy black finish reels that all look the same from a distance.

I've had the ss3000, the be and the 5000t. much prefer the 5000t as you don't get the clunking in the handle, in my opinion they look better too cant stand this all black crap. hope the reel manufactures go back to making nice reels like the isos *one day*
