I'm fairly new to carp fishing and have been told to use sweet baits in winter, eg manilla, savoury baits in summer, eg krill and not to mix the 2 together at any time. What are everyone's opinions on this? Thanks in advance, Scott.

The thinking behind "savoury" or fishmeal baits in summer is usually down to the oil in the fishmeal dissipating better in warmer water. Other non-fishmeal baits can be used all year round. I don't see any problem with using both types in the summer. People generally use a certain bait that they are confident in and stick to it without chopping and changeing too much.

Not mixing baits is a bit of an old fashioned myth. They eat their own *****.

I've always liked and done well with mixing 2 baits

Do you mean 1 sweet flavour and 1 savoury?

Yes, but anything really. Started 20 years ago mixing Nutrabaits big fish mix (fishmeal) boilies with Enervite gold (birdfood) ones. Then using either on the hair.
Also some of the bait companies sell mixed bags of offcuts/chops that include any from their range. They can be had for a good price, and gives the fish something different to contend with.

I stick with the same bait through the year.
I've used various companies base mixes and boilies; Nutrabaits The Biollix with Cinnamon and Peach, Trigga with Liver Elite, Enervite with Geranium, Enervite Gold with Strawberry Cream, B&F Smokey Mackeral, Smoked Ham, Solar Seafood Takeaway, Rod Hutchinson KMG, Infusion and Monster Crab.(I must be a bit of a bait slapper...)
My best winter baits were often savoury and summer baits were often fruity and sweet.
The bait which I used, and use, works or worked all the way through the year.
There is no hard and fast 'it has to be fruit or sweet in winter and savoury in summer'.
I honestly lost count of the fish I caught in winter (and summer) on Trigga with Liver Elite (and sweet cajouser), B&F Smokey Mackeral and KMG.
In fact one of my most effective winter pop-ups that I get a lot of takes on has been my own Garlic Spice recipes.
