i've got Penn affinity III LC 7000s (recommended by this forum) with free spirit es 12 foot rods 2.75lb for larger venues (10-20 acres) and happy with them .. was thinking of getting something smaller and lighter for small lakes to a couple/few of acres (still some large carp in there) .. any recommendations or thoughts on the right size rods/reels ?

I use Sonik Insurgents retractables in 3.5tc and my Penns for majority of my fishing on both my Syndicate lakes one is 9 acres and the other 20 acres they have been a brilliant combo
I bought a set of Okuma Inc 8000 but not used them yet

I have Penn's and Emblems on my 12ft rods but for smaller waters I have Sonik Dominator RS in 10ft 3lb tc paired with Okuma Inc 6000 reels. Fun with smaller fish but have comfortably landed fish to mid 40s on that set up so has enough about it for your needs.

Depends if you are willing to spend to equal what you have. The 2.75 ES is still a lovely rod, I don't think you'll be impressed going from them to something Sonik. I would either get something decent like a 10ft Ballista built, or just use the same set up.

Your current set up will be fine.
It's not an out and out "big water" set up, so would not be to heavy for smaller waters.
My own small water set up is light 10ft 2.5lb rods (tfg compact carp) with old daiwa emblem st 5000. I'm happy to use this on any water up to 70 yards or so.
I changed the reels from smaller shimano xte 10,000 to give me a bit more cranking power (weed, etc), but they are still light and fold up well on the quiver.

coincidentally there were x2 10 foot ballistas on ebay from CF member Jeffire so i bought them.. decent price i think considering they were brand new. arriving today, very excited

I also use the 12ft ES for all my medium range fishing - they're fine on smaller waters, mine have Daiwa Castizm QD's on them. But I do step down to my other set-up on those waters where I am fishing less than 50 yards and there's no major snags to deal with...

I've been using 10' CTX 3.25 with pimped SS2600s for small water fishing - really easy to handle and the extra grunt is great for bigger leads / slightly larger solid bags at short to mid range

Someone is selling a set of 2.5tc Baby Ballista's in classifieds, they are as perfect a small water rod as you will find.
I use 10000 XTE's on mine, but my 5500 Ci4's also sit perfectly on them.
