am i right in thinking i need a regular size p1 backrest for a freespirit ES cork handle and a mini one for Longbow duplon ? i'm sending the jag lockdowns back ...

Good move in ditching the lockdowns - I bought some for my small water pod as an experiment and whilst vaguely functional are no where near as satisfying / versatile as P1s
I have the mini P1s on my other pod and whilst I only use direct to carbon (abbreviated handles) on almost the tightest setting would say that you may need the standard on your full duplons. Saying that and I may be talking sh*te (as have never seen the two versions side by side) but they may actually have the same width adjustability anyway and that the longer arms on the standard are the only differentiator meaning you can use either based on personal preference?

ok thank you, thats interesting - i just thought for the money they should be absolutely bang on and it annoyed me that it costs £5 per insert basically. i saw the p1s at the carp show and they look way more sensible

Lockdowns are slightly cheaper (if you search around) even having to buy the metalwork and the silly multiple inserts. Whilst they look 'minimalist' they don't secure the rod as effectively IMO. Its also a faff to swop inserts in and out if you are using different diameter rods on different occasions - the P1 is easily adjustable and has a bit of 'give' based on its superior design - plus they look better!

ok good thanks for that - thats what i thought. i'm just trying to figure out whether i need mini or standard now cos they both seem to fit all rods... i've spent far too much time thinking about backrest options recently - it can't be that hard !

I have the standard and my rods have thin duplon handles on on the tightest setting they grip the rod nicely. If you had abbreviated handles then would suggest the mini but for the rods you state the standard should cover both. Recently picked them up for £19.95 each from Amazon

I'm sure I read or watched something from solar that said the adjustability of both sizes are the same. It's only the length of the upright bits that are different
