Got a week in France coming up in June and have been thinking about altering my mix. I'm thinking bringing the digestibility up, the protein content down.

My thought process being I'm not trying to establish a bait and want them to get through the bait and pass it as quickly as possible.

I'm currently using a variation of BM1 which I know will work as is but yeah just thinking.

I was thinking of

reducing the lt94 from 30% to 15%
Adding 10% wheatgerm
Adding 5% tigernut meal

What are people's thoughts. Firstly on even bothering changing the mix in the first place and the changes I'm thinking of making?

Thanks

I wouldn't change a thing. If carp like it in the UK, the carp from the mainland will like it too.
But playing around with bait is fun.. nevertheless, carp can digest animal protein much better than vegitable protein. So, reducing LT94 and replacing it for wheat germ wouldn't aid your case!

Yeah the fact it's in France isn't relevant it's just the fact I'm going to a lake for a single week and want maximum out of that first week as opposed to my usual fishing being able to bait and fish regularly etc. etc

Really? I thought wheatgerm was one of the best ways to increase digestibility?

I was just thinking using a lower protein/ lower nutritional bait as I'm not intending for them to be feeding on it for a long period of time. To a bait that is a bit “lighter” and will pass through the quicker?

I too would be inclined to stick with something I know that works and worry about other factors. I would also be loathe to drop the amount of LT94 as for me it is a key ingredient.

I would stick with what you already been successful on , you won't make the bait pass through faster with those minor reductions. The fishmeal after all is the best food signal in that bait mix.

June, post spawning in France I certainly wouldn't be dropping the fishmeal content down. Having a higher protein content will certainly be beneficial to the carp at that time of year. Not to mention it being one of the best attractors in the basemix. If your baits good quality there will be no need for you to have to establish it. Personally don't think the digestability of the mix would be an issue at that time of the year.

Carp will excrete is as fast as they ingest it, whether it is high fishmeal or not.
I've had carp cra pping fishmeal baits out in the net. I knew it was mine as I had made a batch with blue dye. Exactly the same bait as others were prebaiting with in an undyed version. (The dog also ate some and was blue poo for a week).

You would be doing an 'original recipe BFM' on the fish. It still works, just not providing the same utilisable animal protein content, and carp require animal proteins more than vegetable proteins.

Thanks all for the replies. I'll take it on board and keep as is.
