Hi, going to give the Thames a serious look next season and ive sorted out a couple of areas but was wondering on suitable rods , any recommends ? Cheers

Location dependant on ow much weight you'll need to be using. Would think a good 2.57tc would cover most.

Without question, look at the CFX range from the Tackle Box Chris. I use two sets of 10 footers for all my Thames fishing. 10ft 3lb & 10ft 3.25lb.
The 3lb are perfect for 4-5oz leads, if I had to pick one set of rods to use for the rest of my life on the river it would be these. They have a very nice playing action, while retaining enough power lower down to punch out big leads consistently, or to stop steam trains when needed.
In my opinion, the 10 footers are the perfect length. You will find a lot of the areas that the carp are often found, are not in swims that are great for using 12 or 13ft rods. The narrow tow path in places is also a big factor. In a lot of swims, you will not have a lot of room too even physically have long rods set up on alarms. Mountain bikes hurtling behind on the tow path, crazy power boats literally 3 foot off of the marginal wall mean shorter rods are the one. Most of your fishing will not be far out, in totally un manicured swims, so a shorter rod has a big advantage.
They are around £130 for the black edition if you purchase 3. There is nothing in the same price range, that comes anywhere close to them. They are better than rods costing twice as much. The blanks themselves are exceptional quality, they do not soften in five minutes when casting 4 or 5oz leads with big stringers across the river like crap blanks do.

You are talking about fishing Thames for carp not barbel as I think the rods tc that are mentioned are to heavy for barbel
I fish the Thames and I agree a 10ft rod is good I use 2.75tc so I can fish for carp and barbel I would like to hear other opinions on this from people that have more experience than me
I have been carp fishing 40 years and only fished rivers for 5 so am a beginner on rivers
The trouble is I never see anyone on rivers unlike lakes to get any advice

I've got a set of 10ft 3lb CFX custom built by them as I wanted longer handles, can't fault them and haven't used my other rods since I got them.
