Anyone know of a true pin available new other than the Young's ? Preferably not silly money.

Most of the Youngs reels are copies or variants of older reels such as the Allcock's Match Aeriel or similar.
Plenty of these reels still around. A good Match Aeriel can be had for under £100 if you shop around.
Mordex Merlins and Mentors can be had for around £40.
Grice and Young, Rapidex are also mid range reels cost wise.
Speedia's are a bit of a cult reel especially the deluxe version for barbel but the narrow drums can be picked up sometimes quite reasonably around the £50 mark.
Depends what you are after using it for? If for carp fishing the Mordex range is perfect as it's quite robust. If it's for trotting a stick float down a river then the Alcocks or Speedia's are lighter and very free running if in good nick
Modern day Okumas and Marco Contesi are also reasonably priced.
Technically a true ‘pin' is exactly that - the spool fits in a central pin and spins on it and most of the older reels are exactly this. More modern Centrepins sometimes have bearings and ball races which the spool rotates on so aren't really true pins in the sense of the word.

Exactly, I've got an allcocks match aerial, was looking for a new true pin but not looked in depth, a quick look showed the one Young's true pin.

Youngs have two currently to my knowledge, the only others I'm aware of have a long wait or hefty price tag, or both.
I'll probably get a trudex iii but as it takes so long to run in a tru pin it'd be 5 years till I could give a first impression

Not a fan of very narrow pins, keep looking at the river specialist, the lightweight rolling pin, have an original. Fancy a new true pin but not paying £800+ for one.

I was hoping they'd put the drag from the river specialist in the nice true pin(Triton) , but it's just a black version of the atom which I already have.
I haven't looked closely at the new trudex but I've been after something a bit more sealed for a while
I'm not 100% it's a true pin but the millstream might suit you

A new one would be cheaper I think, ebay can be a bit strange with used centrepin prices.
Have a look on the mill tackle website.
I should say Gary is the man behind most of the youngs reels so if you really want something other than youngs his might not be what you want
He also makes the perfection angling reels, very nice.

Agreed that it's nice but is it that far off a Match Aeriel other than being hand made(ish) for 3 times the cost?
I have a Fred Crouch version of the Match Aeriel. Can't ever see me getting rid of it. And although he made them under licence from Allcock's it's as hand made as most of the modern ‘cult designer' reels 👍

Spoken to loads of people with a collection of mint pins, many appear to have display cabinets and don't actually use them.

I've often wondered if people buy the likes of the Chris Lythe pins to use or just look at.
I've got a Fred crouch reel, it looks and feels a bit agricultural compared to some others but is pretty nice to use. When I got mine it was half the price of a youngs reel and around the price of an okuma sheffield

My first new pin was my rolling pin and when I scratched it I was so annoyed looking at it I bought another but couldn't bring myself to use it and carried on using the first one eventually sold the unused one and now prefer the used look if it's me that has made it look used.

Funnily enough mine got a big gouge in it on its first spin
The check spring had a couple of nasty burrs, one stopped it sitting properly and one was in the perfect position to cut a groove in the back of the spool when the ratchet was engaged. I only noticed it after a few trips when I had to give it a clean up
Im surprised they gave that reel the lightweight treatment tbh, I've got solid brass handles on mine to add some weight/inertia so I can bat it back quicker, it helps but it's still a bloody slow retrieve
