My son in law is starting up and been looking at the Caperlan rod/reel combo in Decathlon, Anyone have any feedback on the brand in general?Thanks.

I watch some of the Caperlan vids on YouTube ,some of the stuff looks good,...I was interested myself in the full shelter brolly ,as its simplicity ,however never seen one on the bank or any Caperlan gear..
The Europeans,seem to like the gear.

First of all I don't know, but its not going to be great, what's he after a few roach on the float .
If you can go to a good tackle shop and get some I would hope honest advice.
Decent take is cheap imo, but its very easy to get unsuitable kit and five minutes later after struggling to catch thay give up

No he has the canal at the end of his garden,been bit bashin for years and is now looking at a 12ft carp rod/reel combo for 50 quid.I had a looksie the other day and it looks ok TBF.But as we all know,looks can be deceiving!

Hope it goes well, going on to canal carp could be tricky, but if he walks it he will find then, bait 2 or 3 areas out the way

For £50 all in your only hope is second hand, new gear at that price will be rubbish

Maybe it will, maybe it won't, but with a 2 year guarantee he'd be mad not too, a year at best at tackle shops on cheaaper gear. My experience of returns at Decathlon have been superb, and I can't complain at any of their products I've used in fishing.
The purpose of entry level gear is just that, it;s designed to give you a decent intro/taster, surely after which you'd want to upgrade, as, pardon the pun, you're hooked

I've just had a quick scan for Carp combo kits and there are even Daiwa kits priced similarly, bet not with a 2 year warranty though.
You get what you pay for but as a foot in the door I wouldn't expect a starter kit to last many years.

Badger may have not been the best but it certainly shook the market somewhat.
I'm sure the introduction of Badger made the big boys take a step backwards and have a think because until their appearance some tackle firms were just taking the piss with their pricing.
I have a question, I don't buy much gear nowadays but are some firms taking the piss with their pricing again?

Didn't they just, way ahead of the time, I wonder what happened to them (I bet someone on here can answer that). Fishrite were another 1.
I still have a badger hook rig board thing and a fishrite dual LED bivvy light, the light took some hammer but it still works to this day, though it has been filling a box for over a decade

Had a few bits from this brand for my Europe trips. The bed was fine, although their tent/bivvy range did not impress me much. Will most likely do the job, but I'd rather get some Trakker second hand, will probs be cheaper and last longer if in good nick.
