If I was to break down on a French toll road I know my insurance won't cover me until I'm towed off the motorway.
The cost to be towed off is about £150!
Is it possible to purchase an insurance that provides cover for a car if it did break down on a French toll road ❓.

Cheers Mike

Hi

I don't think 🤔 it does on a private road, all Toll roads are private. But I hope you are right.

You are correct Mike. I haven't found a way round that but to date, despite many trips, it hasn't happened yet.

As others have said, European Cover does normally cover you but you have to pay the recovery fee yourself and then claim it back from the insurance co.

eg. This is the policy wording from www.eurobreakdown.com

In the event of a breakdown on a motorway or major public road
within the territorial limits (Europe), access may be restricted to a
private towing service only. Should this occur, you will need to obtain
assistance via the SOS phones. The private towing service will tow
your vehicle to a place of safety and you will be required to pay for
the service immediately. You can then contact us for further
assistance. We will pay a maximum of £150 towards reimbursement
of the costs, but we will only reimburse claims when we are in receipt
of valid proof of payment. Payment will be made in accordance with
the exchange rate on the date of the claim

As i understand it only recovery services appointed by the police are allowed to operate on the french motorways. and would normally tow you to the nearest services. where you can contact your own breakdown provider. they are regulated and have a maximum they are allowed to charge. These charges are often displayed in the service areas. i think all uk breakdown insurance companies will compensate you for these recovery charges as they are not allowed to operate on french toll roads/motorways

It's all a bit ambiguous?

It's not clear what you can do if you Breakdown!

Smoke and mirrors.

Just pray to the carp gods and drive with one's fingers crossed 🤞

Are you sure?

This action cannot be undone.
