and looking for suggestions for a surface fishing/stalking venue. I'm at the Beds/Herts border, but will travel if need be.
Tried a Google search for stalking venues and didn't get the results I was after 🤣

Think you'll find most of the lakes in this area are that busy you're lucky if you get a swim let alone be able to go stalking.

Any venue in theory could be a stalking venue if you're there at the right time, with the right conditions. There isn't really such a thing as a dedicated stalking venue.

I agree with the lack of 'stalking' venues, as was said on some waters you're lucky to get a swim let alone go walking about, and also the modern way of having to book a swim for 6 weeks time and stay in it for the weekend....!!! at extortionate money....!!!
As far as surface waters are concerned it's any lake that holds carp to be honest. I've lost count of the number of times I've been told "They don't take floaters here mate" only to prove them wrong. The only drawback nowadays is the number of bloody swans, seagulls, ducks and canada geese on some waters.

The problem is being booked into a swim. If you can find any venue where you can move around then it is a possible stalking venue. You MAY be better off with a club water over a day ticket.

Get a couple of local club books, that should offer a variety of waters within a fairly local proximity. May be a case of just dotting around venues. If you find a quiet one you can spend more time on it that day.
