Why do carp flank this time of year please ? I'm guessing in the spring to get rid of parasites etc but not too sure , thanks .

Probably cleaning themselves off, what are they flanking over, a firm bottom. Knew one lake with an old railway sleeper in it, they always visited it and rubbed off on it. Fascinating to see

From my research it might be a few reasons, like said parasite removal and also due to them constantly producing mucus which can build up levels of bacteria etc they rub to rid themselves of part of mucus layer.

Normally I see them doing this on branches, rocks etc.

Definitely parasites or bad water parameters. Has nothing to do with getting minerals from clay etc. that's a myth. They are basically just itching something that's irritating them

They would only build up an unhealthy level of mucus because of an underlying issue. Or parasites or bacterial infections caused by parasites or bad water etc.
