Having an absolute nightmare getting picked up and being cleaned out by various birdlife . I'm leaving baiting up till after dark but with the nights being so short I'm being cleared out and picked up from first light - before and during bite time . It's a nightmare trying to keep hookbaits and any amount of bait in the swim at crucial times . Just wondering whether anyone could share any tips that might help , many thanks.

I have a similar issue on one of my club waters, just getting hassle from various types of birdlife - mallard ducklings, coots, tufties, doing my head in. So I switched to darker boilies, didn't work. I started splitting the boilies into smaller parts (3 or 4), worked to a certain degree but they were still on it. Tried small dark particles, again worked to a certain degree but they were still on it. I've been baiting up little and often when they are not in the swim, problem is the shape of the lake they are always likely to be able to see you. Can't fish nights on the lake so I don't have the option of baiting in the dark. The other issue I have is that bright hookbaits are doing the business, had nothing yet on darker hookbaits, though ironically I've only had 1 hookbait pickup so far.
Next I will be trying small pva bags, or even single hookbaits.
So it's fair to say I'm also interested in how others are managing this.

Small amount of tigers? Single brazils over a mesh bag of shavings or hemp.
I have heard using a lot of chilli slows down birds but never tried it myself.

By a loaf or 2 to take with you and Chuck it swims around you obviously if no one is fishing there and that will pull birds away from your fishing spots,once one or two see someone putting bread in they alert others

Its alright saying "feed them off" with bread loaves and floaters etc when they are diving for your baits, which is a bit different to distracting them to somewhere else from your fishing spot when your surface fishing, but how many buckets of pellets and bread loaves are you going to have to use and fork out for. And at the end of the day, once you have run out of bread and pellets or realize they will clear you out of that and you stop feeding them, they will just go back to diving for bait eventually. A couple of bread loves would not last long enough to feed them even for a day. Look at ducks etc on a village pond, they are just fed constantly all day virtually and do not tire of eating.
And if you are there for a few days, might as well get the breadman to do you a daily delivery.

Fill it in , top it up, single tiger on a stiffy, sit on hands and watch a box set of euro banx,
