Unfortunately some of us have to learn the hard way. I've always tried to learn from other people's f@!#k ups. Tried to teach my son to do the same. Unfortunately it seems some lessons are only learned the painful, expensive way. Was it Nieztsche who said " whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger"?

I had a similar incident, misjudged a cast and caught a branch over hanging the lake about 50 yards away. I could not free it or get to it, so I pulled for a break. There was an almighty crack as the hooklink snapped and I saw a 4oz lead flying towards me like a bullet, I cowered, and watched the lead knock a front bank stick over onto a 45 degree angle, ricochet upwards and break my rod. A perfect imprint of my rod was left on the lead.
Never again have I pulled for a break when inline with my swim, bivvy or rods. I reckon that if it hit my bivvy, it would have gone straight through.

I did that back in the 90's with what was then my new week old Titan lol
