Just got myself a Daiwa GS4000LTD reel for floater fishing and have noticed it's making a squeaking noise when the handle is turned slowly. Doesn't squeak when turned quickly, like on a retrieve.
Thought the spool might be misaligned and rubbing somehow so undid the drag and took it off, but still squeaks without the spool on, so must be something rubbing inside the reel or on the rotor.
Anyone have any ideas? Wondering whether to return it or whether it will sort itself out after a little bit of use.

Not hard to remove the handle and take the side cover off...Probably lack of lubricant...most new reels I open up seem to have next to none.

What lubricant would you recommend? I have wd40 on hand.

WD40 will strip your reel of lubricant, use some reel oil on the handle and grease on the insides

NOT Wd-40 it is not a lubricant - clean a reel with it yes, but then it needs greasing and oiling
buy a proper reel oil and grease daiwa, shimano, Penn, Ardent all do the job if you do a bit of searching there a various marine and other industry types suggested - but the above mentioned are fine

I use 90 weight gear oil in a tiny bottle and automotive grease and something similar to 3 in one for different parts....that's because that's what I have in the garage. I don't deliberately immerse reels and I do dry them after use...It works for me.

Before you take it apart, I would talk to your supplier about the squeak.
If it's just lack of grease and you can put that right then all would be well, however if it's a misalignment of some sort and it needs to go back then they might point the finger of blame your way.

Got 3 of these and never had a problem in the 3 years I've used them. Lovely reels.

I wouldn't even attempt to fix it as you don't know what's causing it, could be something not screwed together right or a miss alignment or a component damaged in transit or when first assembled.
Send it back.
It seems when we buy fishing gear we forget our consumer rights.

More than likely the one way clutch bearing, does the noise persist if you switch the anti reverse off mate

You've nailed it mate. Turned it off and the squeak is gone. Do I need to grease the bearing to stop it squeaking when it's on?
Tbh I use the reel over the weekend and outdoors in general fishing use I didn't really notice the noise at all.
