Hi all. Was wondering if the ',no publicity' low key estate lakes near to Mkt Harborough are still available to fish? Trying the provided e mail results in a returned message . No idea if they're still in existence, suffered a fish kill or Lutra wipeout,? Replies via PM if preferred.

Hi. The 2 lakes in question are/were Wood &Willow They were part of a 3.5k estate according to the website. Land was managed and farmed.

It is no more.
I know the Head Gamekeeper on the Estate and there is no commercially available fishing on there now. Suffered really badly from Otters a few years back.

Every estate lake that I am aware of has suffered very badly from otters. Far worse than deeper, larger gravel pits. Near me is an estate which has five lakes, only one of which has a single carp left following several winters of massacre....and that lake only has two survivors!! I say several winters, it actually only took a few months.

As painful as it is just to think of, I too suffered from otters, groups of the bloody things, I actually live on the estate, ran a syndicate for years, old Donald Leney fish, to over 30+
in addition to every thing else,specimen tench,bream, rudd, pike even eels, all wiped out in a matter of weeks, even had 24/7 members camping out with radios and anything to deter them, they were obviously hand reared, no fear of humans, they would tip a bait boat over while members were baiting up a swim, and as soon as you slept , you awoke to sometimes 3 or more massacred fish yards from the swim you were fishing, they had 4.5k of koi from my own garden pond, protected [or so I thought by high steel fences and closed gates, I had a schutzhund trained Rottweiler and a dogue de Bordeaux at the time but they still managed to kill all my fish, I chased a blue transit van once with a small group of anti-types and the van contained a number of empty cages and stank of otters, my position prevent me from taking any action of the kind I felt like taking. they have cleared every waterway of life within miles of here, no fish, waterbirds in serious decline, bank voles not seen for years, amphibian population has almost disappeared, gamebirds and any other ground nesting birds are not safe. they have been seen on a saturday afternoon in a busy town killing the geese.
they are vermin, just like the nutjobs that released them.
one day just like badgers , [another idiotic scheme, protect them until they become problematic, and then spend millions of taxpayers money trying to eradicate them]
they will need culling, but it will take many decades before balance is restored, and probably too late for many of their prey species.

The guy who ran it wasn't allowed to fence it to protect the stock, so it wasn't really viable to carry on. Shame as the other waters he manages have come on to be great waters with fantastic stock.
