Using heli set up,is it better to be tight or slack fishing over weed ?

Tight. You want to give them as little line as possible. The more you give um. The more weed they'll charge through. You won't be sinking the line anyway in weed so you might as well fish tight lines.

If I can present well in clear areas I still use slack. Specially at shorter ranges. But I'd have a means to free up fish if needed. Waders or a boat. If it's really weedy there still gonna find a way to weed you up, especially if there a powerful fish.

Lake I'm on don't get much worse for weed and I'm 7 landed out of 8. The one was a Hookpull.

If I feel the fish are coming in from behind the rig I don't mind a tight line. And always at snags.

So I don't think there is a right and wrong just access the situation and surroundings

What type of weed, how much & how far out are you fishing generally?

Tight every time. The last thing you want is them gaining momentum

Tight line and a tight clutch generally my preference in weed

While I sort of agree, unless you can get them to the bank with a tight clutch any powerful fish will make a run for it and find a weed bed. I've found letting them run they head for open water a lot more and has given me a far greater land ratio so far.

But I'm fishing 20ft out so a tight line just isn't going to happen.

I've fished tight line less than that out mate. And assuming they will run into open water is fine if they actually do that. Or there actually is open water to run to. Letting them run in weed is a dangerous game to play

Yea lake I'm on there isn't any clear areas. Just patches. Fish fight that hard there's almost zero chance off bullying them on tight line.
