They have been out a while now I know a few people had problems when first realised just wondered now it should have settled down what is the general opinion of this brolly I was interested in the solar had good reviews but I just want a brolly which looks like I can't buy on it's own

The Solar is great and you can just leave the front at home (mine has never been used). Price wise the Solar system is comparable to many brollies so I do not see the issue with buying the system in this case. I had the old Wychwood brolly and it was amazing, I get the impression that the newer ones can be good but there definitely seem to be a few faulty ones knocking around still, possibly due to quality control and general stock availability issues that the company (and many others) are facing

I got both
due to my spinal damage now the Wychwood is far to low for me (HEIGHT mm – 1200mm)
so I bought the much higher Solar undercover brolly (1500mm)
but I only used the Wychwood on 3 sessions one of which I had the mother of all storms and it was rock solid and dry as a bone I loved it but then sadly I had life changing health issues and not been well enough to try the Solar yet but hoping to get out some time in June

I have had one for a couple of years, I really like it for overnight sessions. There are pros and cons from long term use;
-- Its light and incredibly easy to set up / pack down, the storm poles stay attached/folded in and 4 pegs is often enough
-- With the different front options most situations are covered
-- The material used is decent IMO, totally waterproof so far
-- Bag is perfect size
-- Footprint is compact but I can get bed, bags and kit in no problem at all
-- The wire in the hub in the top does rust and leave marks, doesnt bother me but its not ideal
-- The catch on the hub occasionally pops free, usually a nano second before screwing the locking bolt in
-- With the mesh pockets attached the seams are stretched and can catch on opening
-- Its quite low, I am a short arse (it suits me and I like it like that)
I haven't seen anything yet that suits my fishing better. No doubt it will be discontinued or 'improved'....

I just want the brolly I am not paying for a front I will never use the solar is a lot more money as well so I am thinking of getting the wychwood

I know you can buy the Rod Hutchinson Cabrio Hybrid Brolly on its own, with no front, although it does come with groundsheet and mozzie mesh as standard.

Although I get subsidised on Rod Hutchinson products, it is the system I use, and I have used the plain basic brolly.

I have the Cyprinus fast and light mk3 and highly recommend it. Bought it on an auction for £101. If you want a brolly big enough to cover your bedchair and tackle then this is spot on. Material is thick and had no leaks yet. I have read some varying posts on quality mine is superb.

If you can get your hands on an ESP hideout it's a great bit of kit has permanently fixed sides but these can be rolled back
