Hi chaps, before I buy one and see if it's worth it, how far can these be cast?

I have the original Gardner 2 pronged one for little areas it doesn't cast very true but can go a fair way
Need a decent rod to pull it back if there's loads of weed on it
Also have the other one more like a rake but never used it don't think I would attach that to a rod

You'd be better making one, my friend has a triangle road sign with saw blades attached.
It cuts reeds down instantly.

THESE are decent I can put one out to 60 yrds on my ESP application rod spod reel & braided mainline and leader probably a bit further if needs be but never had to, the smaller pronged Gardner one will go the same distance but doesn't fly as true.
Not teaching you to suck eggs but obviously if you have weed solid in front of you out to a spot definitely best to start with a throw rake work it out to the furthest distance start short and lengthen your throws and same with the smaller cast rake rather than a big chuck and trying to bring the lot in.

ALSO FOR REEDS THROW RAKE you could basterdise a road sign and coble something to together though with an angle grinder for a mini castable which is a good shout.

I make my own.
4oz distance lead . Screw four L shaped cup hooks (screwfix or toolstation) into the widest part of the lead at right angles,
Job done.
Use mine with a big Bertha spod rod and 50lb braid.
Cheap as chips and casts 60-70 yds no probs.

4 ounce sea fishing break away lead. break away leads are the ones with folding extensions on.. what you do is cable tie those extensions into the outwards position. you can cast one of those as far as any other 4 ounce lead.

Is that the esp onyx spod rod your using ? I'm looking to upgrade my spod rod and have contemplated buying one, would you recommend it ?

I've got a beautiful hand made double sided brass and stainless one that I got off eBay a few years back. Can't find it on there at the moment. Pity, reckon I could easily put it 80 yards. It's pulled some weed in since I've had it that's for sure

I think the Onyx is a recent-ish addition the one I have is about ten years old now but performs excellently use it as a marker aswell so save carrying two rods.

I had and lost 1 of them great lil things... been meaning to look for a new 1 shame he doesn't seem to be on there anymore
